You are a King. Are you doing your royal duties?
Move over King Charles III, Stephen King and even King Kong.
If you're reading this, you're a king (or a queen!).
Yes, you.
You see, Imam Ghazali wrote:
"No one can understand a king but a king; therefore, God has made each of us a king in a miniature, so to speak, over a kingdom which is an infinitely reduced copy of His own.
In the kingdom of man, God's "throne" is represented by the soul, the Archangel by the heart, the "chair" by the brain, the "tablet" by the treasure-chamber of thought.
The soul, itself unlocated and indivisible, governs the body as God governs the universe.
In short, each of us is entrusted with a little kingdom and charged not to be careless in its administration." -Imam Al-Ghazali
The king mentioned by Ghazali is the humble human being.
Our kingdom is our body, our mind, our soul.
Are we ruling it with justice?
Are we telling it to do righteous actions in service to the King of Kings?
Taking this analogy further, we've all been appointed with this regal title by God.
His Khalifah. His Vicegerent. His Steward, here on Earth.
Yes, you are God’s lieutenant.. I am God’s lieutenant.
And we’ve each been given a specific divine duty to carry out.
That divine duty is the mission you're here for.
Your skills, experiences, talents and gifts have been given to you specifically to achieve this duty.
If you fail to achieve the duty you were sent for - Rumi says ominously:
“It would be as if a king sent you to a village on a specific mission. If you went and performed a hundred other tasks, but neglected to accomplish the task for which you were sent, it would be as though you had done nothing.” - Rumi
So, do you know your Divine Duty?
