What finding your purpose 'feels' like, according to Apple
What's your favourite Apple product?
Is it the iPhone, the game changer that has revolutionised the telecommunications world?
Perhaps it's the AirPods - headphones without pesky tangled wires, which transformed the listening experience?
Is it the original iPod - the device that put 5,000 songs in our pocket?
Could it be the innovative iPad - the contraption none of us knew we needed but is now a staple in many households and businesses around the world?
Or is it the classic Mac, where the technology revolution all started?
For me, it's none of these.
Apple's best product by far, is their communication.
No matter what message they're conveying, they deliver each line flawlessly, with emotion, with storytelling, with authenticity and feeling.
You feel it has been painstakingly put together, with the objective of making their customer feel all the 'targeted' feels, and most importantly, drive them to take the right action.
Their communication is less about the product and more about how it makes you feel. That warm and fuzzy feeling that builds desire, trust and awe.
You can read any excerpt from them and it has that unmistakable "Apple" feel.
They don't 'over' write. They understand that less, is definitely more.
Sometimes, the product being sold is not even a product.
Like the below.
Their ‘product’? It's a career at Apple HQ.
Only they, in their legendary copywriting style, can make a 9-5 job at a big corporate conglomerate sound like it's your life's purpose and that this is the work you were born for, and have been looking for all along.
Except it's probably not true, in 97% of the cases.
Not everyone's purpose in life is to work for Apple - not even those that make it through their recruitment process.
This is not to rubbish them - what they've written is very good. And it's exactly why I want to highlight it because many people often ask me, how will I know if I've found my life's purpose? What does it feel like?
Well, this is a bloody good description. A big difference of course is that when you know your work is driven by purpose, you know there is a spiritual driving force behind it all. Everything feels aligned and although you know your mission is hugely challenging, you feel in flow, you've surrendered to God for the outcome and you're willing to do whatever it takes to see it through.
But, it's a good place to start, to understand a flavour of what it can look like when you're on the right lines.
No-one articulates things better than Apple, after all.
