The 'Turbulent' 2020s
Staying Resilient in a Dark, Depressing Decade
So, race riots in Britain.
Lovely.
The latest sorry saga to deal with.
Shouldn’t be suprised, really.
After all, Ibn Rushd said it best when he said:
It all feels never-ending at the moment.
And here’s the kicker, we’re not even halfway through the 2020’s yet.
Bloody hell.
This decade, since its very beginning, has set the tone for the general mood around us. Everywhere you read and look, there is depressing, gloomy news – the coronavirus pandemic kicked us off with a bang, leading to a global supply chain (and cost of living) crisis, and then we had Ukraine/Russia, Rohingya, Uyghurs, Syria, Yemen, the aftermath of Brexit, worldwide farmers protests, crazy weather patterns, continued austerity, more and more terror attacks and shootings, Islamophobia galore, paedophilia scandals, corruption, data leaks, racism rife, ultra-nationalism, hardcore feminism, hyper-sexualization, the ever-increasing LGBTQIA influence into schools (and the Olympics), the Bangladeshi students protests and last but not least, the ongoing brutal genocide of the Palestinians.
Phew, that was a mouthful.
And if that wasn’t enough, we’re faced with a scary-looking geopolitical situation which seems to signal World War Three looming on the horizon.
Oh, and a bitterly dire economic outlook which looks on the verge of a mega-crash.
Make it stop, please.
It’s no surprise many of us are mentally completely burnt out.
Much like a punch-drunk boxer, we've been taking hit after hit after hit - and now we are on the verge of a complete and devastating knockout.
The 1920s were known as the Roaring 20's due to the decade's economic boom, cultural flourishing, technological advancements, and significant social changes. The 2020s however feels more like the ‘Turbulent’ 20’s.
It has been a dark, damaging, depressing decade so far (although there’s still for it to turn around… you see I still live in hope!)
Amidst all this constant chaos, how are we supposed to keep going?
In times like this what you need above everything is resilience. And what I’ve found that gives us resilience and keeps us going more than anything is our faith and belief that we are meant for a purpose higher than ourselves. That this difficulty is for a reason and surviving through it is beneficial for who you are meant to become.
It sounds simple but if you know, you know.
The believer knows that trials are good and a means to acquire more good deeds.
Being tested polishes you. It's a time to practice patience and perseverance.
This is everything. Having meaning is powerful.
It gives you the mental fortitude required to battle. Something worth fighting for.
If you feel like you are tired, down in the dumps and everything seems meaningless considering the state of the world right now, book a call and I'd be happy to work with you on finding what this looks like for you.
