The Prophet's "Random" Career
Does what you do right now feel random and unconnected to your purpose?
I know how you might feel.
My corporate career was mostly very procurement-centric…
Except the one random year in data analysis?!
How did I get it, and secondly, why did I even accept it? It was so surreal, looking back. I’d never done it before, so had to learn from scratch. It was straight after law school, so it’s not as though it was linked to my future aspirations. It was huge hardcore NHS datasets, analysing the data using advanced Excel techniques and formulas, pivot tables etc and then tell the story of what the data is telling us to the bosses in a summarised, concise way and make recommendations accordingly.
What I recognise now, is that doing that role made me very good in connecting dots, seeing trends, and patterns and seeing how things piece together.
When you look deeper, you realise there’s a pattern in everything.
Especially our lives. It's all designed to polish you and get you to your end destination.
What you are doing right now, even if you hate it, maybe is a necessary requirement in your 'training' on the journey to where you want to be.
“You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” - Steve Jobs
If you were to look at the Prophet's (SAW) life without connecting dots, you would say it was all pretty random.
When you see your life as random, it lacks meaning.
Whereas the reality is each and every aspect of your life connects to something.
You just may not know it, yet.
