Seeking Truth Beyond Borders and Biases
“We ought not to be embarrassed of appreciating and seeking the truth and of obtaining it wherever it comes from, even if it comes from races distant and nations different from us. Nothing should be dearer to the seeker of truth than the truth itself, and there is no deterioration of the truth, nor belittling of either the one speaks it or conveys it.” – Al Kindi
This is one of my favourite quotes.
Sometimes we forget this. We do not have a monopoly on all knowledge, forever.
Insight and inspiration can come from anywhere.
We need to be open to receiving it.
But if you are closed-minded and disregard something just because it hasn’t come from the right ‘source’ or because they don’t have the right credentials, we will continue to fall behind.
We cannot afford this type of arrogance. The Muslims of the Golden Age understood this, which is why their translation movement brought about so much transformation in society, so quickly.
This is why you need a beginner’s mindset, and a curiosity to be willing to learn, even if you might already be an expert already in a certain area.
If you haven’t got the results in any specific area, and you want them… then seek it out.
Or be receptive to someone from that area willing to show you.
We often get overly cynical that oh x person will probably try and sell me something. Or this person is only 24, what could they possibly teach me, at 44?
You might be surprised.
Next time you’re looking at growing yourself in a certain area of life, take a look at who has already achieved what you are looking to do?
And be receptive to them reaching out.
Or better still, you make the first move. Get on a call if need be.
Perhaps, this is destiny working the way it was meant to?
It’s way better than staying stagnant, sitting on your high horse but not moving anywhere.
